Roughage

Yesterday I sauteed asparagus, snap peas, pea tendrils, onions, garlic and gai lan, put it over pasta, stirred in some raw eggs and grated parmesan, and called it lunch. I served it to the big workin' men who are turing our garage into a sunken make-out party living room! I can't say I'm into heavy lifting, but I am into heavy lunches.





Also, check out this painting Kevin found in the rafters above the new room. I am hoping that when my brother comes to visit us he will paint Jacky in and maybe light the forest on fire. It's a real find.

Where I Cook

The kitchen is almost done. Kevin is still working on the built-in, but the shelves with red brackets are finished! I need to find a before-shot. It used to look like home depot. The paint color is called 'deep caviar' and it's not purple like it looks in the close up- it's dark brownish black. The light is new, the counter top and lower cabinets, and so is the Smeg-like fridge. It's actually a Hotpoint from the 50's- enamel bins and glass tops inside. We are starting to feel like we live here!

Lookey lookey- its Pietopia! This is a contest that I am going to compete in for sure. You get to write an essay AND make a pie!!!!! The concept is that you create a pie that represents something going on in your life at the moment. So I guess my pie will be "Utter Chaos and Anxiety*" pie! You write about how each of the ingredients represents something relevant to your situation. Can I really make a pie of whiskey, cereal and asprin? It's going to be a challenge but I think I can!

But seriously, what do I love more than writing creative essays and baking pies? Putting them together is not only thrilling but also signals that there are other dweebs just like me, right here in Portland. I will NOT be revealing my recipe until the day of the contest OBVIOUSLY, but I will keep you posted with any great success or failures.



*Clearly, we are remaining remarkably chipper and enthusiastic. However, buying a house sucks and if you don't want to walk around with the shakes and your cellphone glued to your palm I might recommend that you avoid it.
